Child visa (subclass 101)
- Overview
- This visa allows a child who is outside Australia to come to Australia to live with their parents. The child must be sponsored by their parent or their parent's partner. The child must be single and at an age that's younger than 18, a full-time student between 18-25 or older than 18 but is unable to work due to disabilities.
To be an eligible sponsor, you will have to be one of the following:
- an Australian citizen
- an Australianpermenant resident
- an eligible New Zealand citizen
The child must be a biological child or adopted child of the sponsoring parent, or a step child who has not turned 18 of a step-parent who is no longer the partner of the child's parent but has a legal responsibility to care for the child.
If the child is an adopted child of the sponsoring parent, the parent must show that the child was adopted before they had obtained permanent residence/Australian citizenship/eligible New Zealand Citizen status.
This is a permanent visa and you will have to apply offshore for this visa. If your child is onshore and you wish to apply onshore, the applicable visa subclass is 802
